Monmouth County Police Academy

LOCATION: FREEHOLD, NEW JERSEY

Netta Architects was retained by the County of Monmouth in early 2017 to modernize and expand its Police Training Academy in Freehold.

The facility serves the county and municipalities with basic training for police and corrections officers and in-service training / continued education. The existing 36,000 square foot facility is centrally located and shares a site on Kozloski Road with many other county facilities including the Sheriff, OEM, and County College.

With demand for police officers growing, the building was lacking in almost every respect. With Netta’s help, the future police academy will consist of classrooms with the appropriate technology, the correct number and size of lockers for gear storage, a physical training space, and lunchroom. The design also contains a separation of recruits from instructors and staff, building security, and now includes parking.

With the guidance from our architects, County of Monmouth opted for an extensive renovation and addition rather than construct a new building that would require temporary relocation. This project will transform the academy into a 100,000 square-foot state-of-the-art training center with the flexibility to accommodate a future crime lab and other modern technological advances. In addition to classrooms and computer labs, there will be an auditorium with a 300-person capacity, lockers and showers for all recruits, facilities for trainers and staff, exercise and mat rooms, an extension of the firing range, and an indoor running track that links to an outdoor course on the County campus. Ultimately, the Academy expects to build a dormitory to house recruits and County staff during emergencies.
